Automatically monitor Plex Media Server, restart it through Synology DSM when it goes offline, and receive recovery notifications.
Plex Monitor is a lightweight Synology package with a modern, password-protected dashboard. It continuously checks whether Plex is reachable and automatically requests a package restart through the DSM API if Plex stops responding.

Requirements
- Synology DSM 7
- Python 3.9 installed from Synology Package Center
- Plex Media Server installed as a Synology package
- A DSM account with permission to start and stop packages
Using a dedicated DSM account with only the necessary package permissions is recommended.
Installation

2. Open Package Center in DSM.
3. Select Manual Install.
4. Choose the downloaded .spk file.
5. Accept the warning for manually installed third-party packages.
6. Finish the installation and start Plex Monitor.
7. Click Open, or visit: http://YOUR-NAS-IP:8088



First Login
Use the default dashboard credentials:
Username: admin
Password: admin

After signing in, open the Security section and change the default password immediately. New passwords must contain at least eight characters.
Configuration
Enter the following details under Monitor settings:
Plex URL: http://127.0.0.1:32400
DSM URL: https://127.0.0.1:5001
Synology package: PlexMediaServer
Also enter the username and password of the DSM account that may control the Plex package.
The default local addresses are suitable when Plex Monitor and Plex run directly on the same NAS.
Notifications
Telegram requires:
- A Telegram bot token
- Your Telegram user or group chat ID
You can also enter a webhook URL for supported services such as Discord, Slack, ntfy or Home Assistant.
Use Test notification to verify the configuration.
How Recovery Works
1. Plex Monitor checks Plex at the configured interval.
2. If Plex is unreachable, it immediately connects to Synology DSM.
3. DSM stops and starts the PlexMediaServer package.
4. The restart cooldown prevents repeated restart loops.
5. Plex Monitor reports when Plex becomes reachable again.
